Close to Sandakan airport by taxi. 350m walk to McDonalds and other western takeaway shops; convenient if you have kids. Beautiful Hello Kitty decor which was reminiscent of Hello Kitty World on Jeju Island in South Korea. The bedrooms were amazing. Huge pool in the complex. Close to the Rugby Sevens. Also, the property owner was very kind and met us at 10pm to let us into the property.

The Elopura Hotel located on the East Coast of Sabah which also known as “Land below the Wind”. Elopura name itself was the first name of Sandakan when it was found by William B Pryer back in 1879.

This was just a stop over on the way to Sabah so we only stayed one night but the hospitality we were greeted with was exceptional and the breakfast buffet in the morning was absolutely delicious. It was really nice to be looking out over the Hard Rock Cafe as well and the dinner here was excellent also. We had a room with a view of the ocean which was also amazing for such an affordable hotel. We had a wonderful stay and thank you to all the staff for their wonderful hospitality. We hope to return again one day :)

1. Michael was waiting for us outside the 99 SpeedMart convenience store. He was prepared to drive us to the accommodation when we texted him prior that we were taking a grab. However we changed our mind and hired a car instead. Nevertheless Michael led us to the accommodation. 2. Recommend to hire a car as it appears public transport is not accessible. Although it is convenient to call a Grab or Maxim, they may not be available/reliable. We had a booking cancelled and another cannot find us. 2. The top floor offers a great view of the sea. See attached photo - looks like Singapore's Marina Bay Sands 3. Both Lee / Michael were quick to respond when we asked something.

Hotel Sandakan is situated in the city centre, only 200 metres from the Sulu seafront. It features two restaurants and offers free Wi-Fi and on-site parking.
