A few stairs but really not many compared to most of the towns in other parts of Cinque Terre. We loved the town of Portovenere and especially loved staying at Santa Caterina. The accomodation was very clean and our room had a balcony with an amazing outlook. The breakfast was lovely and the staff went above and beyond, even helping us book a restaurant for dinner.
