Far Northern QLD is one of the most beautiful and eye opening parts of Australia. Cairns is a great hub for this region, which is sparse for cities, but the appeal of Cairns is not what is in the city, but what is surrounding the city. All the best attractions (waterfalls, the great barrier reef, the daintree rainforest, hikes, etc.) are all at least 20mins in any given direction, but there is very little public transport for these attractions in Cairns. This is I suppose how the tour companies make their money, but it means that a trip to Cairns without a car is impossible to explore self-guided, and becomes very expensive very quickly, because you need to book a tour for any given attraction. If possible, I’d 100% recommend coming to Cairns with a car. It’s a big drive no matter which state you’re coming from, but the journey up the coast is beautiful, and you will have so much more freedom on your trip with one. Cairns City itself is not good for much other than the lagoon, and the shopping. For a relaxing holiday, consider staying in the Northern Beaches, or Port Douglas.
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Private and peaceful. A couple of good cafes/restaurants and a general store. 10min to the nearest supermarket and to the airport. 15 minutes to Cairns City. Great base to travel up to the northern beaches
For our family, location great. Short trip from airport, quick lunch at Red Barron Hotel, changed for trip to venue at Redlynch. We were only there for a few hours but found it to be a 2 star rating. I would not book this again.
Very quiet part of Edge Hill where the apartment was. Close to big IGA supermarket and lots of other shops, within walking distance. Edge Hill has lots of good eateries. Close to Botanic Gardens. A nice suburb of Cairns, only 10 minutes away from Cairns by car, about 10 minutes from the airport. Good location overall.
Cairns is a great holiday destination it has so much to do, and it is surrounded by beautiful mountains and rainforest , it is a great place for everyone, and it has really good food, coffee and great customer service.
I loved the night activity and the Lagoon is amazing, very relaxing! Plenty of good food affordable food options, and casual tropical feel and lots of sun!!! I actually usually stay at Palm Cove which is quiter and I find it so easy to travel using the bus services, which are 50 cents per ride in Qld or $1.00 for the whole day, so easy to get around! One point I would say is Cairns City needs to get their street signage sorted out, as I spoke with many and we all felt either their was no sign at an intersection, or it was hidden and not obvious! Yes we can use our phones when they behave, but it is still vital to have basic signage! Overall I love going to far North Queensland as it is beautiful scenery and incredible plants and flowers thrive everywhere and very friendly!!! Leith, Melbourne
