There isn’t much to do in Geneva: the huge fountain and Lake Geneva, and that’s about it. The Old Town is not very big or particularly interesting compared to many other cities in Central Europe. I recommend a visit to Mount Salève, which offers beautiful views over the canton, the city, and Lake Geneva. The city provides a free public transport card if you stay in a hotel, and one bus line goes directly to the starting point of the cable car. Geneva has a wide range of good restaurants serving cuisines from around the world. As for local food, I find it overloaded with cheese. Eating out is very expensive; expect to spend at least 40 CHF (about 40 €) per person for lunch, with dinner costing even more. Geneva is not a large city, and the central area feels relatively small. What bothered me most was the noticeable prostitution, homelessness, and drug use, especially around the main railway station
Everything would have been perfect except for the faulty air-conditioning. I suggest you check regularly to make sure that all amenities are in order before renting out the rooms. We had an over-all nice stay
Currently the area feels like a building site (June 2023). It’s is very dusty at times and the pavement on the walk to the hotel was full of rubble, which wasn’t easy to navigate through with a suitcase on wheels. There is a lot of building work going on just outside the centre of town and it can be noisy for hotel guests
Great place to visit. The lake, and the activities around it are fantastic. If you stay in a hotel, you get a free travel pass from the government for the duration of your stay, which is super convenient. This covers buses, trams and boats across the lake. Eating out can be expensive as you would imagine, but there are lots of affordable places near the university. There is a thriving cafe culture and bars, especially around the old town which I very much enjoyed. For the younger crowd, there are nightclubs and live music along the edge of the lake. It's important to plan to get the most out of Geneva.
I booked on the basis of easiest access to return a hire car to the French side of Geneva Airport and cost for three adults to stay overnight prior to an early morning flight. This hotel exceeded our expectations in what it delivers for the price. Friendly and professional mask-wearing staff (I believe Katalina?) who upgraded our room in respect of my mobility issues and (I believe Katarina?) who gave us a wonderful recommendation to a local restaurant for the best pizza ever. The room was clean and spacious enough for three adults, with one double and one single bed. Good shower, a window which opened, a desk, clothes cupboard. Based on previous comments re room size we were pleasantly surprised as the room, the caring and professional service, a very secure gated carpark etc all exceeded our expectations. Airport is a 5 minute drive away. Would highly recommend this hotel!
Just another cheaper alternative for Geneve on the French side. It's rather suitable to those, who need the airport, for all the rest you better choose Annemasse, which is connected much better with Geneve and has more to provide on its own either.
