Having been to Izumo before and knowing it would not disappoint, I decided to take my family for another vacation in January. We stayed at Nipponia Izumo - Hirata Cotton Road for three nights. It is a former traditional sake brewery house converted into a kominka style hotel. Situated on a quiet historical sake and soy sauce business street, the hotel not only provided a unique home sweet home service but also amazing fine dining experience. Their in-house chef made each meal using local products to create feasts that delighted the senses. I highly recommend this hidden gem of an accommodation if you do visit Izumo.

RITA Izumo Hirata is located in Izumo, within 1.2 km of Hirata Honjin Memorial Museum and 11 km of Gakuen-ji Temple. The 4-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom and free WiFi. Rita Izumo is an ancient warehouse that has been beautifully renovated. The inside in ancient wood is very cosy, every object has been chosen with care and taste. Very comfortable space, lovely fresh flowers in every room. My host, Yamane San was very welcoming, kind and helpful. Thank you for everything 🙌🏻 Delicious breakfast in an old soy brewery next door with the kindest host. I can only highly recommend Rita Izumo when staying in Izumo !

What a surprise this place was! You get to stay on the beautiful temple grounds. The view from the property is great. A great location in between Izumo and Matsue. There's a hiking trail that starts close by that goes all the way to the ocean. There's a sauna right outside the cabin that you can rent for a few hours. One of the employees from the temple will bring you breakfast each morning. We went to the nearby Izumo Enmusubi Onsen (about 15 min drive) and enjoyed the large outdoor onsen. Watching the birds fly over while relaxing in the onsen was so pleasant. It's neither a pro nor a con, but the cabin itself had a very western feel to it. At one point my wife said "I feel like we've stayed in places like this in the US". This was a great deal for the price.
