The staff was really kind and polite, especially the cleaning staff who made sure we came to a clean and organized room everyday after travel. July is very hot and humid so planning each day requires some thought. There are good museums (with air con) as well as interesting old parts of the city. A great shop for buying oolong tea. The botanical gardens are an oasis of calm. Unlimited opportunities to find interesting food (as well as "western food" like sandwiches and burghers). Opportunities for out of town excursions (like Pinglin)

I have no idea why this city is the 20th most visited city...
I have no idea why this city is the 20th most visited city in the world. I was planning on spending time traveling the entire country, but tossed that plan and flew to Korea after only a few days. I was there in July (not ideal weather, hot and rainy) so I don't feel like I got the best experience possible. My opinion, in a word: Overated.

There is so much to see in Taipei.
There is so much to see in Taipei. It is the "food capital" of the world. Easy to get around by MRT (metro) and / or taxi. People are very friendly. In summer it can be a bit hot and humid.

Taipei is wonderful!
Taipei is wonderful! So much to see, do, eat and buy! The only thing I would change is probably not go in the hottest time of the year end of July to August. Public transportation is fantastic. Super easy, affordable and clean.

Great transport and easy to move around.
Great transport and easy to move around. Based in Taipei and I took day trips such as Sun Moon Lake and the Yehliu-Shifen-Jiufen to some places of interest. Stayed 3 days at Beitou - love the hot spring bath in my hotel room and had relaxing time. Attended 3 days of silent retreat at Pingxi too.
