Let me get this straight: Japie’s Yard is the best place you could ask for in Swakopmund. Rooms are cozy and his pets are the sweetest (Iga, Japie, their dogs, Piccolo and Luna, their cats) , but that’s not the best part of it. Jessica and Peter went over and beyond in warming and welcoming us, from doing the laundry to setting up a fire after dinner time for us to chat and enjoy a drink. We felt so at ease with them, that we ended up sharing memories with Peter over a fire and under a starring night, surrounded by all his wonderful animals. Make yourself a favour and reserve Japie’s Yard when you come visit Swakopmund, you won’t regret it.

The hosts, Mariana and Rian are incredibly hospitable and really make you feel at home. They were even nice enough to bring me along on a sandwich harbour trip they had planned with a friend, which was the perfect way for me to explore the dunes and surrounding areas. Rustic Inn has a unique, antique charm that you won’t find elsewhere. The courtyard is spectacular as well as the location. Highly recommend booking if you’re planning a visit to Swakop.

La Casetta was very conveniently located to the center of town and just one street away from the beach. The rooms were basic, but had everything we needed, including a mini-fridge, a microwave, and an electric kettle. The rooms only came with hand soap but luckily we brought our own shampoo and body wash so it was not an issue. Hands down the best part of our stay was Buks, the owner. As two women travelers driving in Namibia, we asked his advice about safety, safe areas and dining locations. He even let us know about the local custom of tipping official parking attendants which we were unfamiliar with because it does not exist in the US. After leaving Swakopmund, we also inquired about the safest refueling stations on our drive to Otjiwarongo, which was very helpful.
