It's a family vineyard with one B&B unit. The room was very well furnished and nicely decorated, true cottage-core experiencr. The breakfast was already prepared in our room and fridge, so in the morning we could have it whenever we wanted. For the evening we ordered (at least day ahead) the wine tasting and the Le Grá Tasting platter, which was amazing, both wine and food, and we enjoyed that while watching beautiful sunset from the terrace of our accomodation. Definitely the best accomodation from the 8 have stayed in. Wines and preserved are also available for buying. The owners are chatty and happy to share information about wine-making if interested.

The breakfast was excellent, a Dutch breakfast. Very filling and delicious. The coffee was great, too. I liked my bedroom with its window seating and beautiful, old, original wooden floors and doors. The light switches and latches on the doors are original in the heritage property. Leon told me the house was the first in Masterton to have electric lighting. I also had my own bathroom and entrance to the house. Plenty of light from the large windows looking onto the garden. The garden is filled with flowers and beautiful roses and a hammock! The hosts, Kinnie and Leon are very friendly and helpful. I found my weekend stay comfortable and relaxing. The house is within walking distance of the CBD with its shops, cafes, bookshop, Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, and the Wool Shed Museum. I loved the lavender in the Queen Elizabeth Gardens.

Located at the edge of Carterton the cottage is a good base to explore the Martinbourough-region. We also made trips to Cape Palliser, to the Putangirua Pinnacles (the Dimholt Road for lotr-fans), the Rivendell-location and the Waiohine-Gorge. Breakfast with homemade bread and fresh eggs was outstanding and the hosts recommended lovely restaurants. Last but not least - we loved Hazel and Lotta, the two dogs of the family. We'll try to come back soon!
