I'm not sure there would be a better location to stay in Lausanne. I walked everywhere I wanted to go, including to and from the main rail station. The staff took time to show me how to get around on a small pocketable map they give you -- I used it often. About a kazillion restaurants within a 10 minute walk. You can walk to the cathedral. The hotel is a little funky and unconventional (by design) which I think is fun. I'm 58yo but Marriott has obviously designed the Moxy properties for the 20-30yo travelers ... but that makes it more interesting for me, particularly when I travel alone. There is more of a social scene "downstairs" by the combination check-in/bar/restaurant area and it's easy just to hang out there for a couple hours with a book or your laptop and have a drink or eat or just enjoy chatting up other travelers. I really don't feel other hotel franchises offer such a design.

This accommodation's facilities are more than our expectations. The most spacious room ever we stayed in Europe at this price. They provided free wifi, a kettle, hangers, and a large bathroom. If you want to visit those historical spots in Lausanne, I think this is the best option you can get as there is the train station right outside of this hotel and some churches are within walking distance. Services from the front desk can speak different languages which is remarkable. They also can help you to microwave the things you bought even though you are not booking with breakfast options.
