This is a beautifully preserved old house, yet equipped with modern air conditioning, bathroom, and kitchen facilities. The space is clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a garden and a traditional storehouse. It’s not suitable for a rushed one-night stay — ideally, you should spend 2 to 3 days here to truly experience the architecture and lifestyle of the old house. The building itself is of historical value, and its previous owners have interesting stories. Simply put, you can think of this place as a small museum. Additionally, Murata Town, where it’s located, is also well worth a visit.

The entire experience was extraordinary. We were greeted with welcome drinks in front of a fire, and led to our room by courteous but hospitable staff. Our 3-person room faced a quiet garden, and we enjoyed delicious cake and tea before being led to the dinner. There was a pair of yukata and a pair of more modern pajamas in the room, along with a warm jacket and a pair of socks for each person. There was a toilet in our entrance hall, and a sink and mirror in the room. Dinner and breakfast were both served in an independent Japanese room located in the older building, and our server conversed with us in fluent Mandarin and English. We loved the exquisitely made Japanese dinner and breakfast, every single small dish and platter of it! The two hotsprings were also delightfully pleasant. The indoors medicinal bath was small but very clean, while the outdoor bath was much more spacious. For some reason, we did not meet many people using the bath either in the evening or the morning. We opted for a shuttle bus to leave the hotel in the morning. The hotel was very helpful with answering questions and reserving shuttle service through the booking.com chat room in English. We were extremely happy with our stay, and hope to stay longer next time.

The spacious, clean room. The relaxation areas such as the lounge and the library. We liked the onsen, both the indoor and outdoor ones. The buffet dinner was excellent. It had many options and delicacies, both in western and Japanese. The dining area was spacious, serving staff were excellent. The free drinks and snacks in the lounge and the library for retreat were excellent bonus.

The outdoor onsen was beautiful, as was the indoors one. The a la carte dinner menu was amazing. The rooms are traditional tatami rooms.

I really enjoyed everything in this stay, the room was perfect, and the bed was super cozy! I had a beautiful view of the small town of Shiroishi, the mountains, and a far view of the Shinkansen passing by every hour so often! I really felt like I was at home in a Miyazaki film, the breeze is splendid, and the quietness is so nice here. It’s a peaceful place to stay, enjoying the weather almost everyday, and when it’s rainy after getting the groceries. A good hot bath is really nice to have, in the mornings I would have a cold bath too, and I ended up cooking more than I thought I would. The hosts are super friendly and nice, very caring and helpful! When I needed to find a nearby clinic or ask about the town’s history on homes they were there! Open arms to everyone, so I’m glad I had a great stay here! I’d recommend stay here for a week, maybe longer if you want too, it’s a great stay!
