Vagharshapat stands out with its ancient churches including the first christian church built 1700 years ago. Visiting Armenia and not visiting Vagharshapat is a big loss. I’ve been in Gayane church and participated in the holly mass(patarag). I asked for a healing prayer. The priest prayed for my son and I noticed that he kept praying for us after we left the prayer room. He did not accept the money we offered but said” go and be healed”. I suspect most folks visit as a day trip from Yerevan.
I suspect most folks visit as a day trip from Yerevan. We found this to be a great place to base ourselves. Not only to see Etchmiadzin, but to go to the Sardarapt Memorial and Museum, the Yazidi Temple (astonishing) in Akalnich, Zvartnots, and the Musaler Memorial.
