We stayed in a lodge which was amazing with views across the vines to the mountains beyond. The hotel location is perfect. It is right in the midst of the vineyard but only a short walk (10 minutes) to the main square of Cafayate. Breakfast was lovely and served outside the main building. The pool was great. There was a burrowing owl who had made its home right between the pool and the vines! I recommend both the wine tour, tasting and restaurant at Nanni. Tasting at El Esteco and El Transito was also great.

This is the best hotel we have been to in Argentina, the place is just wonderful and the employees are very nice! The location is beautiful, surrounded by vineyards, the hotel's architecture is stunning (it looks like a Spanish "masia" or a countryside house in Italy's Tuscany). When we arrived they gave us a room in the first floor and asked for a room in the floor above to have better views, they did all they could to change our room free of charge. They also offered a free wine-tasting, so we had the chance to try all of their wines with some cheese platters (white, red, rose, from the cheaper end to the very expensive end) with a professional sommelier. The hotel offers some activities (we did a horseback-riding excursion). In the evening the garden and the terrace are full of people enjoying some nice wine, the atmosphere is really magical. A lot of people ignore the area of Cafayate (and head to Mendoza instead), that is a big mistake, not only do I think that Cafayate wine is nicer but the area is beautiful. I strongly recommend staying here!

Converted from an old Estancia just a couple of years ago. Finca el Recreo was a fantastic find. We drove down from Salta to Cafayate and followed the Satnav to the entrance to the estate on the Route 40 just outside the town. Long gravel drive up to the entrance only serves to build the expectations which are more than exceeded when you pull up at the main entrance. A fabulous building which it is difficult to reconcile was a family home until a few years ago. We were greeted with a choice of a class of iced water or a glass of wine from the Vineyard that us still run by the family. Check in complete we were shown to our rooms which were fabulously clean and enormous with 2 double beds in each room with large ensuite bathrooms. No aircon but each room fitted fit large ceiling fans which did a great job. Short walk across the lawn to the good sized pool and sunbed area. Very interesting tour and wine tasting at the Bodega which is part of the property. Simply fabulous.
