The staff were so welcoming & helpful. My wife & myself arrived late on the day of our arrival. Starving we asked where could get something to eat. Brett offered us room service pizzas even though the kitchen was closed the pizza oven was still on for a function. They even did GF much to my wife's delight.

This is the only place I stay at in Ballarat. The rooms are clean, it's in a great location, it's cheap as chips, it's a no-fuss set-up to check yourself in and out. Love it. Actually moving here for work for the next 3 years but will be recommending this place to anyone visiting. They've even got much better pillows from the last time I stayed here which was literally my only complaint.

Loved the trees and plants around the house, it was very warm and cosy, kitchen facilities were great and house was spacious. We very much enjoyed our stay. Just needs a little bit more lighting for reading, but overall it was a wonderful place to get away.

Oscars Hotel and Bar is in a very good position for accessing shops, restaurants, the art gallery, movie theatre and Lésspresso cafe which has THE BEST COFFEE in Ballarat. The rooms are very comfortable and have everything one needs for a stay. Although busy with the restaurant the accommodation area is very well protected from any noise from the downstairs eating areas. All Oscars staff I encountered (wait staff, management, room service staff) are very experienced, friendly and professional. Oscars restaurant was VERY popular over the three day weekend I was there and I can understand why (staff, position, comfort, accessible and welcoming for all age groups. Their wine list, whilst not extensive, had some good choices and I enjoyed both eating experiences over what was a drizzly, cold weekend. Parking was easily accessible down a side lane behind the building, and access with baggage easy from that area through to reception- staff will help with taking luggage upstairs to rooms - no lifts in keeping with any older style stone building that has been upgraded in keeping with comfort and style expected. I would recommend Oscars to anyone who would like to park the car and explore the CBD, or have the car easily accessible to scope out the many offerings in and around Ballarat.

So much to see and do for all types of travellers of all ages - from the recreated gold mining town of Sovereign Hill, the stately Kryal Castle, the Wildlife Park and/or Ballarat Bird World to visiting the Ballarat Tramway Museum (with a ride on a heritage tram), a walk around Lake Wendouree (with so much bird life to see), strolling the magnificent Woowookarung Dementia Friendly Forest & Sensory Trail or taking in the magnificent view from Mt Buninyong, spend time in the beautiful Botanical Gardens or even take a casual art class - there is something for everyone! A wonderful choice of accommodation for all types of travellers in various price ranges, wonderful places to eat and choice shopping experience. You’ll need to stay more than one night though!

Ballarat is a quaint little town.

Ballarat is a quaint little town. Sovereign Hill was the main focus of our visit, plus catching up with family. The kids, 12 and 9, loved exploring Sovereign Hill, and there was plenty to see and do; panning for gold, shopping for jewellery, and learning about the second largest gold nugget ever found. We stayed at Sovereign Park Motor Inn, which was perfect for our family of four. The Red Lion next door made for an easy breakfast option before we left Ballarat.

What a surprise. Landing in this hotel you will land smack bang in the middle to a history time capsule. Must be seen to be believed. Staying here really bring the history of the town alive today. Do the town read and walk history guide. There’s one for the statues and one for the buildings.

I lived one house away. This accomm was booked for my visiting family. They loved everything about their stay. An easy walk to the supermarket, great shops and the local hotel. They used the cafe only a few houses away. We enjoyed a great meal at the hotel.

Cheap, only $107, we wanted to stay in Warrnambool after driving the Great Ocean Rd, Ballarat was the next day destination but Warrnambool was too expensive almost $200 so we decided to just drive to Ballarat instead of next day
