Beechworth is a charming older town on the gold trail.

Beechworth is a charming older town on the gold trail. They’ve preserved so many of the heritage buildings with excellent signage explaining the history. There is a mix of welcoming pubs, quirky breweries and cute cafes. It’s well set up for visitors and locals alike. The countryside has outstanding natural beauty and residents take pride in presenting lovely homes and gardens. We enjoyed the Spring Gorge walk from our villa although the bridge is still closed from flood damage in May 2025. Woodshed Falls were also pretty even in the dry weather.

Beechworth is a fantastic immersive experience into the...

Beechworth is a fantastic immersive experience into the past. All the town, shops, buildings capture the essence of the past. It's easy to feel you're back in the 1800's. People are friendly and happy to chat. So much to do from strolling through the town centre to a walk around Lake Sambell. There are a number of wineries nearby. Visit Beechworth Honey, The Brewery right in town for a great meal and a huge variety of beers. Check out Last Street Brewery for an unforgettable experience tasting endless yummy cordials as well as alcoholic liqueurs. There's a cafe attached and lots more to peak your interest. Looking forward to a return visit so we can see more of Beechworth and the surrounding areas.

Wonderful area for those interested in early australian...

Wonderful area for those interested in early australian history. Pity local council doesn't promote it more eg.Old tannery site etc. They seem to be preoccupied with push bike riding.locals are very friendly and welcoming.

Fabulous historic town - lots to do - we did the Escape Room...

Fabulous historic town - lots to do - we did the Escape Room which was great fun. The rail trails were great for cycling and we did a wine tasting at Indigo Winery and enjoyed a platter there afterwards in the garden. Worth making the trip to Stanley in the evening as the pub there is fantastic - great food and ambiance. The Beechworth honey shop was great too - the honeycomb is a must. We will be back.

Friendly town. Enjoyed dinner at local pub. Short drive to Yackandandah and Myrtleford towns. A pretty scenic area. Good drive from Sydney as a stop / stay then a shorter drive 4 hours or so to Melbourne the next day.

Beechworth is a beautiful historically significant country...

Beechworth is a beautiful historically significant country town, either as a holiday destination or a base for exploring the whole region. Whether it is walking, shopping, eating, sightseeing, there is something for everyone. It is an easy town to walk around. Visitor Information in the old Shire building were very helpful for tour info, miners right and gold panning maps, etc. The gold tour opposite was very informative and interesting. The Burke Museum had fascinating displays including a Thylacine and other taxidermy birds and animals you might never see in the wild. As well as historical artefacts relating to Burke. Queen Victoria Park has some spectacular trees planted in the early days of the town. One of my favourite towns in Victoria, never get tired of visiting.

We stayed in unit 1 in the adjoining 1870s Nun’s Cottage (adjoins the 1889s Priory - both pictured) which was extremely spacious and well equipped - it was self contained with a good kitchen and bathroom. A short walk to the centre of town in a very quiet area. It’s so special to visit historic Beechworth and stay in a genuine part of its early history. Excellent value for money. (We had self checkin so didn’t actually see anyone). No TV - so nice to escape the real world for a while.

We were warmly welcomed & our rooms were generously and thoughtfully appointed with the little things we needed for our stay including items for a small kitchenette for preparing our breakfast The surroundings of the motel were lovely making this affordable hotel a city above a highway motel. The location was particularly good being right in town so able to walk around the lovely town. The swimming pool was also very relaxing.

Stayed here for 3 nights, the hotel is very well maintained with a luxury feel to it, standard double room was small but serviced daily. The hotel is walking distance from the town center though the walk back to the hotel is all up hill. All staff were lovely, Their restaurant was closed during the stay period. The grand oaks and surrounding area is beautiful.
