Sucre is the de-facto capital of Bolivia.
Sucre is the de-facto capital of Bolivia. It is rich in history with many museums available to visit. The city is exceptionally clean and its gardens are beautifully maintained. The 25th May Plaza is a realy nice shady place to sit and watch the world go by. Buildings are almost universally painted white (you will need some good sunglasses as the glare is strong) and well maintained. Plenty of quality restaurants with reasonably priced traditional and international meals. Friendly and helpful people but little English spoken.Guest review byRoderickBolivia - 10.0
We loved Sucre.
We loved Sucre. It retains an excellently restored and preserved Spanish colonial town center with its churches and monasteries. Everything within walking distance (at least for us); we never required car transport. The museum of the liberation period, the Casa de la Liberdade, was very interesting. The cathedral is magnificent and well maintained. English tours existed in all the museums we visited but there were very few time slots available so we made do with our reasonable Spanish skills.Guest review byAntonioUnited States - 10.0
This is perhaps the fifth time that I have visited Sucre...
This is perhaps the fifth time that I have visited Sucre with my partner. This time was for family reasons and not tourism. However, as always, Sucre - The White City - does not disappoint. We managed to go and see the indigenous show 'Origins' and combine the experience with dinner. Sucre is capital of Bolivia but suddenly is very calm place.
Sucre is capital of Bolivia but suddenly is very calm place. People are nice and streets (except market area) are not crowded. City is quite small and centre has perfect construction. While centrally situated, it is tucked away enough to provide a peaceful stay with minimal traffic noise. The rooms are cosy, though the bathroom could use some mold removal. Breakfast is quite basic, but the staff happily prepare scrambled or fried eggs on request. The team is friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. I have found Bolivian hotels disappointing but not this! Felt at home and wish I could have stayed for longer. Very clean the surfaces are absolutely sparkling and nice clean white sheets. Simple private bathroom, well stocked kitchen, nice out doors and indoor area. They even have food you can use and just put money to an honesty box. It was central in a beautiful historical part of town. It was a restored historical building. It was clean, the rooms were warm, spacious and welcoming.
