Such a cute little town to use as you adventure base.
Such a cute little town to use as you adventure base. There are so many different activities and stores that it’s impossible to see and do everything in even a week. Everyone in town is so friendly and I never felt unsafe, even during the late night block party I stumbled on. Watch out for the casino though. They do not like it if you win anything, and they will make sure to finagle the money back. For us it was the ribbon “security” band on the US tender— after we won a few hundred dollars and then started loosing, they made sure to bring to our attention they “couldn’t take the only hundreds we had left” because of the ribbon, even though they prefer and want you to pay in US Dollars to begin with. They made sure this happened only after our winnings were down so that we left in the negative. Other than the casino, which I highly recommend you avoid, this is such a quaint cute little Hispanic town with the friendliest people.Guest review byClayUnited States - 6.0

San Ignacio has enough for one to two days of activities for a typical tourist. The Mayan Temple complexes are the main attraction (the one in San Ignacio is easy to reach but less interesting than the others a bit further away). The Iguana conservation project and chocolate making demonstration are worthwhile if you have time. San Ignacio was a great location to explore the jungle and many different sites. The ATM (cave site) and several Mayan ruins are nearby and we even went into Guatemala for a day trip to see TiKal which is one of the largest Mayan ruins.Guest review byKennethUnited States - 8.0
The local people are friendly.
The local people are friendly. There are a variety of restaurants and several tours available to see things of interest around the area. It is an easy transfer into Guatemala. You can walk most anywhere you need to go. We had breakfasts at a small cafe close to where we stayed. We had lunch and beers at one of the local taverns. Dinner was at a place across from the tavern one night and at a place on the square the next. I highly recommend Maya Tours. They have a big local market on Saturdays.Guest review byRuthUnited States

Our room was big and perfect for our 2 night stay. We got the bus from here to xunantunich and it was easy to navigate the town.
