Wonderful service, great food, lovely decorated rooms and bathrooms -- and extremely accomodating management. I had made a booking mistake, booked one night too early. Hotel manager greenlighted applying the payment to our actual stay instead of charging us more. We're very pleased and will be glad to return to this place.

The arrival to the hotel was surprising, as it was a small road used by public for access to walking tracks and visitors to the hotel. It was a lovely sight to see the hotel at the end of the road, and the area was very nice to experience, so close to the city but surrounded by forest. The check-in process was easy, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful with all queries. They even pointed us to the best way to travel into Basel with public transport. The room was well appointed, evidently newly refurbished and everything was extremely clean and well maintained. The old glass windows was a lovely touch of charm, as were the short stories on the bed, which was a lovely little surprise. The following morning breakfast was well laid out, a simple affair with a diverse choice of bread, pastries, cereal, fruit and with eggs and coffee to order, there was nothing more that was required.

We rested in this hotel after a long day city-walking in Basel. I made a good choice to select this hotel. Good for money! I highly recommend the resturant in the hotel. Its the best of the best!

The restaurant is authentic and wooden cozy space which feels amazing. Although the breakfast does come with limited options for such a Hotel but the quality of most products are really good. for example cheese and milk and range of breads seemed local. You are also asked for the omelette options which is nice ( It was the best eggs I had in a hotel). Also there is a buffet in each floor of the hotel with drinks and snacks which is free and was helpful as we checked in late and no restaurant was open in the area. The only things that I wish were better in the breakfast was the juice as it was not fresh. Also, during mid day, the smell of boiling red meat was all in the common area , but not in the room I must admit.

    The free ride from Hotel to Airport was seamless. The hotel provides a free ticked which can be used in the bus and train. Take Bus 50 from Basel Airport which takes you to the train station at Basel. Check the platform number. There is a direct service to Liestal or a train with 3 stops and you get off at the 4th. 5 minutes to hotel Engel. Lots of eating places and people very friendly.

    I ' VE NEVER SEEN THIS HOTEL FROM THE INSIDE, I AM HERE SLEEPING OUSIDE IN MY CAR, THIS #########never open a phone call, Same as booking assistance##-##, I specified that I was arriving late night No one replyed a d took my money, Now at 2.00 am I am sleeping in my car outside this joke place, Money robbed, Booking service it' s a joke, Booking this place may you will sleep.in a car like me and they will even take your money....and zero assistance ,zero messages nothing

    A very friendly welcome “so glad you are here”, both in the hotel as in the restaurant. Great food in the restaurant with a lovely view, a lot of local guests. The staff are so kind and welcoming, we left very early to avoid Gotthard tunnel traffic and the staff made us a small breakfast to go when we left at 6 AM💚 Also first drink is on the house in the minibar 😉 Very quiet during the night. We will absolutely be back!

    The hotel and the room were both very clean. Room size is also perfect for a couple with a baby. I asked the reception to provide us with a baby crib, which they did, although we self checked in as we came in really late. The breakfast was also good. Very happy with my stay at Engel.

    Nice hotel for one/two night stay, close to highway and backerei. Personel was very nice and we got room upgrade and free drinks. Was clean. Good choice to stop during travel.
