I had a very good experience at Novotel Arica. We arrived late in the evening but the next stay we leave from Arica at 22:00, but we have the permission to stay at the swimming pool area after check out until our leaving from Arica. I had a good rest, comfortable bed, nice view and excellent walking shower. The staff was very helpful instead we tried to pay with 4 debit cards, only the credit card works. Seems to be rule for the hotels in Chile to accept only credit cards. In Santiago had to make a deposit of 20 usd for the payment of debit card.

Its location is right outside the cathedral so very close to the main square, easily wakable around. My room was towards the back of the building so very quiet. The bed is very confortable, plugs and lights close to the bed make it easy also. The bath is equipped with towels and shower gel, the water gets really hot. The breakfast had basic options like scrambled eggs, ham, salami, cheese, jam, butter, yogurt, cereals and hot/cold beverages. So nothing extravagant, but self service which for my diet was a big plus. The staff very friendly and helpful as i had issues with paying on my arrival (you can barely find open places on a Sunday, including access to ATMs).

Good location, walking distance from most interesting things. Friendly staff. They didn't really speak English, but we managed to understand each other most of the time. With a bit more attention to details, this could be a much better place though.

The city has few highlights, the center is dirty and has few decent shops. Only the view from the Morro is outstanding. The only value from Arica are the excursions you can do from the city: -The arqueological museum from San Miguel de Azapa is excellent -The excursion to Lake Chungara: this is only to be done from March to November, in summer you have bad weather in the region and the international road to Bolivia is being repaired, it is quite dangerous. This might change in 1-2 years when the roadworks are finished. We took an organised tour and we had awful weather.

It's a good point to explore the area.

It's a good point to explore the area. The beaches are nice. Some parts of town are pleasant (but not all!) The local museum is worth visiting as well as the Valley of Azapa one, which is wonderful. The beach is nice too.

El Morro was impressive, Azapa is very interesting, the city...

El Morro was impressive, Azapa is very interesting, the city center was nice, the beaches were good and not too crowded. Above all, the people were very friendly. There are many good places to eat in the city center. Sometimes they are a little hidden, but look for hidden gems. Taxi's are a good means of travel and a lot can be reached on foot.

Avoid Playa Chinchurro and go to the Playa Lacua and Playa...

Avoid Playa Chinchurro and go to the Playa Lacua and Playa Livera instead - much cleaner, safer and you can swim there. Be sure to check out El Morro mirador - it will give you a good sense of the city layout. Go to San Miguel museum - it's a must-do. If you want to go to Parque Lauca, be sure to book in advance as tours seem to be only available Dec-Feb.

Arica has some beautiful beaches to stay and relax a few days. 1 day is enough to visit the city center: Plaza Colon and El Morro. Avoid walk around after sunset. From Arica take a taxi to visit the Archaeological Museum of San Miguel of Azapa (it is closed on Mondays).

On this trip to Arica, I visited the Morro de Arica and its museum, which is very beautiful and historic, the Azapa Valley and the UTA Museum, the fishing terminal, Chinchorro Beach, the city center and its shops. I had a great time and I love Arica. I also went to the stadium to see my Cobreloa team play.

The staff is incredibly kind and helpful — they made me feel at home from the very first moment. The hostel is colorful, clean, and full of life. The kitchen is perfectly equipped with everything you might need to cook, and there’s always fresh drinking water available!! The common area is cozy and relaxed — a great place to read, chill, smoking area, great terrace and TV place. I really loved the atmosphere here, it feels like a warm and creative little oasis in Arica.
