Most famous feature of Harbin is the annual Ice City which of course isn't available in the summer. But Harbin itself has a lot of Russian architecture and Russian shops and restaurants and a lot of history, the town was built up by rich Russians fleeing the revolution. There are many interesting things to visit including a Tiger Park where you can ride a tour bus and feed the tigers. A few years ago Harbin was amazing but not anymore. Central street was overcrowded and most things were overpriced and similar to being sold in other shops. Most of the central areas are dirty, rundown and smelling of urine everywhere. Also if you can’t speak Chinese you’ll be lost because nobody speaks English. Outstanding but very cold.
Outstanding but very cold. We hit the Ice Festival, Zhaolin Park, St Sophia Church, the Cablecars, the Night festivities, Zhangyong Street Mall, the Siberian Tigers, and many other spots. The rooms are much older than the pictures shown on booking. The style indicates it was built around 15-20 years ago. But it is well maintained.
