Whole staff is charming. Victor and Diana are always eager to help. I also had the chance to discuss with the friendly owner Claudia who drives the business with a lot of care and humanity. Renovation works are fantastic and contribute to mix both history and comfort. The green patio and the great pool area are quiet and appreciated after a day walking around. Location could not be better just al front del rio. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Very welcoming staff. The room was very comfortable and had a nice balcony. There’s also a very nice garden and outside sitting area, as well as a pool which we made good use of. We appreciated the secure on-site covered parking.

Lovely small hotel/former family home. Dona Betty Sinning is a lovely personality and her 3 staff are super sweet. Breakfasts were delicious. I was traveling with my friends ( a couple) so we had 2 rooms and another American family of 4 was there as well. Super quiet and peaceful. Half a block to the river. It was super hot while we were there, so the a/c and the small pool helped! They let us store beer and juice in a fridge in the kitchen. I was super sick my last nice with a sinus problem and Betty brought me a hot water bottle for my sinuses which helped a lot. There is always someone available to help you 24/7 which is nice. We enjoyed boat rides and strolling the town. It is undergoing many impressive upgrades!

Portal de la Marquesa is a wonderful place to stay. The staff treated us like family. The location is perfect and the courtyard with pool is wonderful for relaxing and cooling off (it's hot in Mompos!!). We chose Portal de la Marquesa as a place to completely relax after our Latin American journey and it was a great choice. We spent a week there.

This was my third stay in 13 years and it continues to be my favorite hotel in Colombia. Not only is the charming traditional building beautifully restored and the (warm) pool a blessing in the sweltering heat of Mompós, but the rooms are equally beautiful. The bed is fantastic, the bathroom modern and there is a jacuzzi on the rooftop terrace that you can book for one hour a day. All the staff are simply wonderful, many of whom have been around since before my first stay, which also says something about this place. Any wish or request is taken care of immediately. The hotel (just like the whole town) is very quiet, unless there happens to be a party. The breakfast is very good quality. Once you leave the hotel, you are in the heart of the historic center of town with nice restaurants, shops and cafés. The location is prime.

We were at the end of our Colombian 3week roadtrip and kind of tired already. When we got to the Mompax, we were instantly amazed by this historical city. Magical. The hotel itself was extraordinary. The staff was super helpful and carried all our luggage from the car to the hotel. The pool had warm water and our kids swam in the evening and morning. We booked 2 rooms and they both were so stylish. Really felt inspired by this place. Also really safe with kids, because the street in front of the hotel is for pedestrians only. Really sad, we didnt get to spend more nights there. Mompox + San Rafael hotel = perfection! Highly recommend!

Surprisingly interesting.

Surprisingly interesting. We took a flora and fauna boat tour which was lovely. Weekends come alive with visitors, week days are quiet. Café 1700 is the best food in town, you can sit in a rocking chair under a fan watching the river flowers by and birds and iguanas playing.

Pretty pueblo, but, oh, so sweltering hot. The view of the river is non existent from the place in which i stayed as the municipality is conducting repairs to the river bank. This has been going on from September i understand.

The tranquility of the place and the beauty of the old...

The tranquility of the place and the beauty of the old colonial buildings. A lot of money has already gone into beautifying the village in a way totally consistent with its colonial history. Unfortunately major works to repair paving of the roads and put cabling underground is still ongoing which makes it dusty and noisy in many locations but once the work is completed it will be wonderful. The trip by small boat to do birdwatching on the lake is a must as is a guided walking tour of the village sites. Mompox Retro are a good group to use with knowledgeable guides. Don’t go on the planchon if you want to see birds as the loud music frightens them away! Good restaurants were Santa Coa, Comedor Costeño, Fuerte and Inmaculada.

Beautiful city but at this time under road constructions whic is sandy ans messy. Great optons in food and variety at the Malecon which is the best place to walk and spent the entire day. Ask for the walking tour, go on the flat ship thorugh the river, great experienes. Filigrana is awesome, we went to places to understan what it means and how it is made.

Mompox is the quintessential first river city of Colombia. It’s founding transcended historically and economically and it’s authenticity is represented in its inhabitants who throughout the years have preserved the traditions that keep them going!

You don't really need much time to know the town.

You don't really need much time to know the town. You could stay longer if you just want to relax. Beautiful colonial town on the bank of the Magdalena River. Nicely preserved the unique architecture of the colonial times. It may still be better preserved, however. It could become in a real (and unique) touristic spot in the middle of the Magdalena Valley.

And great location in centro historico near the river Ps: very important info: when using booking.com write mompos but also santa cruz de mompox, you will get more of accomodation available

The staff person working in the morning was very personable and friendly. The breakfast was actually of great quality, and you get to take it in the cozy courtyard in the back. The hotel has retained many of the charms of the old colonial-style house. The bedroom has AC, which is much needed during the day.
