FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

My recent trip to Cairo was nothing short of unforgettable.

My recent trip to Cairo was nothing short of unforgettable. The city is a fascinating mix of ancient history and modern chaos, where every street feels alive with energy. Cairo has a unique rhythm—bustling traffic, the constant call to prayer, and the warmth of its people all blend into an atmosphere that feels both overwhelming and enchanting at the same time. Of course, no trip to Cairo would be complete without seeing the Pyramids of Giza. Standing before these colossal structures was surreal—no photograph can truly capture their scale or the sense of wonder they inspire. A highlight of my visit was also taking a Nile cruise at sunset. Drifting along the river with the city lights glowing on the banks offered a calmer, more romantic side of Cairo that beautifully contrasted with the daytime buzz. The markets, particularly Khan el-Khalili, were an adventure on their own. The maze of stalls, filled with spices, jewelry, and traditional crafts, gave me a real taste of Cairo’s cultural heartbeat. Bargaining with shopkeepers was part of the fun, and I left with not just souvenirs, but memories of conversations and laughter. Cairo is not a quiet city, but that’s exactly its charm—it’s raw, vibrant, and unapologetically alive. Between the ancient wonders, the Nile’s serenity, and the sensory overload of the markets, my time there was an experience I’ll always treasure.

Despite the majority of 'tourist areas' often being heavily congested - Cairo has ample space and things for people of all ages to see and enjoy. From the pyramids, to Sphinx, Museums, parks and Cairo tower - to sampling pigeon, Cairo has it all, and more!! Highly recommend Cairo for a weekend / long weekend / week getaway where you can indulge in anything and everything from luxury boutique hotels, day trips, dessert safari, Nile cruises, or relax and unwind whilst enjoying some fine dining, local cuisine and soaking up the sunshine. Local hospitality is amongst some of the best I've experienced around the world and one of the many reasons I will continue returning to Egypt!

Pyramids were great, and GEM. citadel too.

Pyramids were great, and GEM. citadel too. Cairo as such only so-so but worth a visit. People are friendly but always trying to get money from you, turist prices. Perhaps fair enough, considering gap in wealth. Be prepared for stomac flue, almost impossible to avoid if you normally live in Europe/US. Felt safe all the time.

Very good value for monry. Brand new hotel. Rooms like 5 stars design hotel. Beds very comfortable. View from the pool and restaurant is breathtaking. Food very good and tasty. Lots of fruits for breakfast. Smoothies amazing, burger as well. Staff is so helpful. I left my passport on the airport late at night, they comforted me and called the airport in the morning. Staff is the best from front office to housekeeping and waiters. Keep good job dear people.

Location is very accessible, staff are friendly, price is reasonable, very near to Egyptian museum and souvenir shops, just beside KFC and some restaurants. There is also money changer nearby. Breakfast is good 👍 The tours in the hotel are cheaper than online booking. There is heater in the shower and my room is quiet at night. I will come back to this hotel if I am visiting Egypt again. 👍

Location (shopping practically inside the hotel, variety of restaurants in the hotel and close to the airport). For a one-day stay, on the way back from a tour of Egypt, it is a good option. The lobby decoration is very beautiful and the staff service is very good. The hotel areas were clean and the pool was very beautiful. My room was large and had a good balcony with a view of the pool.

The staff especially Sarah and Saif were amazing. The service was better than some of the best 5 star hotels we have stayed in. The rooms are comfortable and perfect for a visit to Giza, and location is amazing. Exceptional value for money.
