Incredible place to see the windmills and the castle on the hill and to discover the history. But.... depending on the time of the year and the night of the week you may find no restaurants/cafes/food options open in town. Consuegra is a good location to visit the windmills and castle above the town and they are very well worth a visit. There is not a great deal of choice of hotels in the town and with the benefit of hindsight I would have visited the windmills and castle in the morning and then had lunch near the Plaza España at restaurant Gaudy which is absolutely terrific. There are very few bars in Consuegra and the only 2 we found did not open until 20.00 hours or later in the evening. While there are a good number of restaurants open for lunch they are mainly closed in the evenings, certainly during the week. After a month in Spain and so many hotels I can say this was the loveliest place we stayed. The hotel is beautiful. The beds comfortable, the location perfect. The host was very helpful. Interesting walking through the old town and the Plaza Espana. Also interesting to people watch along the promenade by the (waterless) river. Plenty of choices for snacks and drinks - almost like chiringuitos but miles from the beach! A drive or a walk up to the windmills and castle is well worth taking. Even though her English was limited as was our Spanish she went to great effort, speaking slowly to give us all the information we needed plus gave us info about the town, etc. .She is a real asset to the hotel!
