A warmly-decorated comfortable home, on a residential street conveniently located near a grocery store, and a fairly short drive from airport - but not so near that you feel like you are living at Heathrow. We had everything we needed, and some extra thoughtful touches that we did not expect. We are flexible, easy-going travelers that do not hold unreasonably high expectations wherever we go,...still, we were very pleasantly surprised at how comfortable we felt there. Meeting the owner was a bonus, and we loved hearing about how it truly is a family home. We heartily recommend this property.

We liked the kitchen amenities to prepare our own meal, and that everything to to so was available. There is definitely enough room for two persons, and beds are comfortable too. Everything was clean and beds were made (wasn’t clear from booking)

We had a lovely stay at Giljanes hostel. Everyone was helpful and the hostel was spotlessly clean! I especially liked the large kitchen/lounge. Would recommend it to anyone!

Mainly, I loved the serenity and the solitude of the location. The property was finished to a very high standard, including decoration and comfort and the underfloor heating. Swimming in the sea each morning, and then returning to this toasty cabin was pure heaven. A rare find!

A very convenient location when arriving by air from...

A very convenient location when arriving by air from overseas. Just a few minutes' drive from the airport, its' a great base to get your bearings. The town has adequate grocery shopping and a petrol station and is convenient for exploring Gasadalur as well as crossing over to Streymoy and beyond.

If you are into hiking, there are several options in the...

If you are into hiking, there are several options in the area in several levels of difficulty. Both near the village and on the island. There is also a small cozy grove by the church. The village is located right next to a large lake, Leitisvatn, where you can, among other things, book a kayak trip across and see Bøsdalafoss. There is a museum, for example Gamla Kálvalíð. There are several shops as well as a grill restaurant and more.
