Amboise is a great town to visit.
Amboise is a great town to visit. Lots of lovely shops & restaurants in the town especially the Lebanese restaurant. The chateau d'amboise is lovely & the chateau clos de luce & gardens are fabulous. Tours is only 35 minute drive from amboise & the village of chedigny is 35 minutes away also. It's beautiful. Will definitely be back again.Guest review byMaryIreland - 10.0

Ancient buildings everywhere for history-lovers, in particular the chateau, but the real attraction for us was the Leonardo da Vinci connection. The Chateau Clos de Luce was his home for several years and houses a museum dedicated to him, full of interesting personal detail - drawings, paintings and, best of all, reconstructions of his speculative machines. Loved the location of the spacious apartment, the furnishings and the facilities. Didn't like the absence of hot water when we arrived, despite the heatwave at the time which was however quickly sorted by the owner who appeared to flick a switch that was impossible for me to spot. As mentioned by others the quirky instructions for unlocking the outside door which opened out on to the street - very hit and miss - frustrating and irritating for us as guests. The security deposit required before key code was given assumed the guest had a working smartphone, with a charged battery, network and signal - and who knew how to use it! No precise instructions as to where to park my car which meant I risked having it towed away. However I finally got the number. The huge pile of dog muck right on the doorstep shortly after we arrived - which was not the fault of the owner.
