Excellent choice for breakfast, fresh fruit, pastries , jams, cheeses , charcuterie, good coffee and deliciously light and tasty scrambled eggs and bacon. Location for breakfast in a beautifully decorated original wood panelled room looking out on the picturesque garden. The hotel is so near to many cafes, shops and restaurants and the museums and cathedral. We were delighted to emerge on Saturday morning into the colour and bustle of the weekly market in Place St Patrice just beside the hotel.

We loved our stay at Belle Normandy. The location is perfect, with beautiful grounds right on the edge of town, only a five minute walk to the cathedral and all the shops and restaurants. Our kids enjoyed the basketball hoop and would have stayed at the hotel much longer if they could have! The staff were amazing. They were friendly and helpful on recommendations, and they also seem very proud of the hotel, which was renovated from an old school. It is a very special place, and I highly recommend it.

We spent two nights at this hotel, and I honestly couldn’t recommend it more. The interior is decorated with a unique and artistic eye—you’ll keep discovering charming little design details everywhere you look. There’s also a small, lovely back terrace where we enjoyed our breakfast surrounded by flowers. Our room was exceptionally clean and tidy, and everything worked perfectly. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious. The location of the hotel is simply perfect. But what truly sets this place apart isn’t just the beautiful space or the practical amenities—it’s the warmth, thoughtfulness, and genuine hospitality of the owners. It’s clear that they run their boutique hotel with love and care, doing everything they can to make guests feel welcome and at home. Their passion is evident in every little detail. I will definitely be coming back. Five stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Our hotel room was very spacious and comfortable, located in a beautiful city that is very walkable with many restaurants close by. Our favorite restaurant during our stay was Bonbonne. I'd recommend getting a reservation, you won't want to miss it. Great cocktails (try Tonka Fever) and many great plates, and lots of gluten free options that my husband appreciated. We took the local city walking tour and the BayeuxShuttle all day D-Day tour and would recommend both.

FAQs about hotels in Bayeux

Rich History and Medieval Beauty

Bayeux is a medieval French town in the region of Lower Normandy, known for the 11th-century Bayeux Tapestry which depicts scenes from the conquest of England by William the Conquerer in 1066. Registered by UNESCO as ‘Memory of the World’, this historic tapestry is 70 metres long and gives us information about the way of life in the Middle Ages.

The Norman-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral has impressive stained glass windows, bas-relief sculptures and a crypt with 15th-century frescoes beneath its floor. Consecrated in 1077, this structure is the place where the Bayeux Tapestry was kept for about seven centuries.

Opened in 1864, the botanical garden of Bayeux, which is home to the popular Weeping Beech tree and about 400 more trees, is open daily for free. You can wander around the picturesque old part of the city or visit the vibrant city centre with the modern shops and restaurants.

Crossed by the Aure River and situated on the train route to Paris, Bayeux is 7 km from the coast of the English Channel and 20 km from Caen – Carpiquet Airport. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Bayeux and the city of Caen.

Bayeux is a 35 min taxi ride from the ferry in Ouistraham (which is Caen on their schedule). There are busses to nearby sites (Arromanches), but usually once per day is your option. You spend a lot more time relying on the bus, but taxis are very expensive and not plentiful. I loved the town of Bayeux itself-very quaint, and walkable. I found the Tourist Information center to be extremely helpful and they speak great English. She helped me with getting the bus, where to go, and how to pay (you need 2 Euros in cash-there is no cards on the bus).

A charming small town, brimming with history and interest. A good base for days out and excellent restaurants for dinner - but be sure to book ahead in August as very busy. A highlight was catching the Saturday night light show at the cathedral, on during the summer months.

Bayeux itself was amazing. Got to the see the Festival of Lights at the Cathedral and visited the Bayeux Tapestry. The whole town is quaint, lively and walkable. Further afield is Mont St Michel which is absolutely incredible and definitely worth a visit. Also the proximity to the D-day landing beaches makes it easy to visit the sites and points of interest.

I took advantage of the museums and cathedral in Bayeux itself, but also it was a convenient point for tours of the D-Day beaches and Mont St. Michel. I also spent one afternoon in Caen. Probably best to get there by car as the town is served by trains, but no buses were in evidence. I traveled in late August and but for the closing of the Tapestry Museum in September, I probably would have enjoyed the town and site-seeing with fewer crowds outside of peak holiday season. The light show on the side of the cathedral was a summer-only bonus that I very much enjoyed and would have missed if I traveled outside of July or August.

The bedroom was so spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. A continental breakfast was served each morning and was delicious. We had our own private dining area and were able to look out at the property's beautiful garden while we ate. The location of this property was ideal as we used it as a base to explore Normandy. It is also perfectly located to explore the town of Bayeux.

Breakfast in the mornings was lovely and Christine was a lovely hostess. Our room was large and spacious for a twin room and was welcomed as we had a lot of motorcycle luggage. The location was super and only a 20 minute walk to Bayeux town centre and the restaurants with loads of choice. A wonderful stay at a lovely property and city full of history.
