I wasn't sure what to expect after reading some of the reviews, but we had a great stay - friendly and very helpful staff; convenient and enjoyable on-site restaurant; a good sized room that has had a modern re-fit. We were able to store and secure our bicycles in the reception area

Maison du Mont is fantastic chambre d'hote - being the main house of a former farm it is a beautiful villa with freshly painted lovely rooms, a nice breakfastroom, a grand garden AND a fantastic view over the Marais swamps. Combined with the warm welcome by Mme Corine and her good coffee Maison du Mont is most certainly a place I want to come back to, to stay a few more nights, to go on trips into the villages and nature of Normandy. Also perfect for a one night stop on your drive to the South of France. Plenty of room to park your caravan and car on the private property.

Carentan is a quiet, easily accessible town, well-located for exploring the D-Day landing sites of June 6, 1944. A car is, of course, necessary for getting around. Hiking trails are also suggested in local guidebooks. I was surprised by the size of the Monday morning market.

A good location for exploring the D-Day landing beaches and major museums. Activities in Carentan are somewhat limited as not all are offered in February. However, many shops are open, which is very convenient.

The hostel in Carentan is quite close (up to 50 km) to many of the relevant D-Day sights (Sainte-Mère-Église, Utah-Beach and also Arromanches-les-Bain, Omaha-Beach, Bayeux etc.). This was one of the main reasons for us to book here. Furthermore we loved the restaurant in the patio where we had lunch two times during our stay . This is highly recommendable. Furthermore the hostel has a free parking lot across the street.
