Issoire is an ideal overnight stop when travelling from the UK to Spain and vice versa. The A75 from Clermont Ferrand to Beziers is the best road I ever travel on -- relatively quiet, especially at night, lovely scenery and a direct route to the Med. Also, the only toll is on the magnificent Millau Bridge, but that is avoidable by going through the town. Central Issoire, where there is a good choice of accommodation, is only a half mile from Junction 13.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

If you are looking for a special experience, I recommend staying her. The building and grounds are an an actual castle built in the Italianate style (think Romeo & Juliet). The host and hostess were most accommodating. The grounds are extensive and include a very nice campground where the spaces are privately spaced with bushes & trees in between. There are laundry facilities. Some spaces have amazing views. The swimming pool is very large, with a play tower and two water slides. A convenient stop over town with a carrefour for cheap petrol and food for the onward journey. Closed on a Sunday evening. Despite its location just off a freeway ramp, with a couple of other chain hotels and out of town it pulled in a full house of diners both nights we were there 100+ and we had great meals. There are only a couple of rooms, up an outside staircase, but the room was spacious, comfortable and a walk -in shower in the bedroom, but a separate toilet cubicle. The rooms are perfectly comfortable if nothing special, but with effective air-con. The hotel restaurant was not open when we visited, but the town of Issoire has a few restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. The hotel had a check in computer which told you the room number and key code. Arrived at 8am which was enough to grab 4 hours sleep before check out and getting back on the road again.
