Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre peppered with gothic stone churches and the Cathedral; many pedestrianised roads, little central traffic. An overwhelming variety and number of places to eat, so a different joy every evening. The art gallery (Beaux Arts) superb, welcoming, free, feels friendly, accessible and just the right size; cool in the heat, dry in the wet and free toilets. Cafe closed when we went but still had the seating available. Joan of Arc experience in the archbishops palace uses original sources to recreate virtually her second trial at which she was posthumously pardoned. Lots of information and not too scary. And it didn’t blame it all on the English! A sound and light show on the front of Rouen cathedral free every night in the summer and well attended but not crushed. The town had a lovely vibe and had plenty of places to eat and drink that were open until quite late. There were plenty of historical buildings and the town was very scenic. There is so much history in the city.
There is so much history in the city. It was beautiful to walk around. There’s lots of winding old streets to explore. There are lovely restaurants and great independent boutique shops to rummage in. You can see history in real life in the bullet holes in some of the walls. The architecture was stunning too. The cathedral was beautiful. Well worth a visit! We went with kids are 7 and 10 and they enjoyed walking around. And seeing all the history they’ve studied at school. The food at Maison d’Arthur was lovely. Beautiful town, we were blown away by architecture. Had some amazing food in the great restaurants. Cathedral was stunning, and people were friendly. Service in shops and restaurants was exceptional. It's perfectly located to dive right into the center of beautiful Rouen. Parking in the nearby Opera parking garage was possible at a fair price (~15 or 16€/24h). The location is very good, near the main train station. The rental car from Hertz was broken down on the day we checked out, the staffs at the hotel helped us (we are from Thailand for vacation in France) dealing with the staffs from the car rental in French language with enthusiasm.
