The staff are amazing and kind. We arrived tired from a long journey due to a train delay and they ensured check in was simple and smooth. The room was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. Location was perfect, a walking distance from everything. Our room has a balcony overlooking a lovely sight. We were granted a late check-out and the staff helped us call a taxi. We loved Valence, both the city and the people!

I was there on a Monday, and then Absolutely Nothing is happening. The (only) museum is closed on both Monday and Tuesday. All bookshops (apart from FNAC) were closed as well. Maybe other weekdays are better, but do not go there on Monday.

To be honest, Valence is an ugly city.

To be honest, Valence is an ugly city. The Rhone flows through it but alas large motorways beside it. The centre is a bit run down. If you are on your way and are near it, you can visit the centre and have something to eat. There is a nice park near the river.

This was a forced stop but I didn't see anything that was...

This was a forced stop but I didn't see anything that was worth visiting. It is just a small working town and the hotel we stayed in was a dump. Even taxi driver couldn't believe we would stay there. Also, you cannot hardly get an Uber...only 3 Uber drivers for whole city/town.

Nothing to see.

Nothing to see. It is a cozy small town without any interesting place. The center has some bars which are open after 19:00 but are expensive and low quality. The unique place you may like is a big park clise to river.

We loved the proximity of the hotel to the old part of town.

We loved the proximity of the hotel to the old part of town. There was convenient parking which led 1) to Penny Kenny's Irish pub (v. friendly) which was across from a magnificent city park, complete with a grand gazebo; then 2) loads of beautiful shops; then 3) many sweet little narrow streets with cafés, atmosphere of genuine conviviality and terrace drinking. What a friendly town. All so close to the Novotel Valence Sud, where we stayed.

Valence is a lovely place to come and stay for a few days or...

Valence is a lovely place to come and stay for a few days or a few weeks. The town has lots of great restaurants and the cafe scene is quite good. I did find the number of SDF people so homeless quite alarming. They were harmless but there were a lot. As soon as it gets dark, they don't seem to hang around. Valence is a great staging point for the Vercors mountains and as a stay over into the Ardeche. We come to Valence regularly and really like it. There are some great little artisan places particularly along the Rue Des Alpes just going out of town. Try the Vallon bakery and the Epicurieux coffee and beer place...just amazing.

We had a really modern, very well designed spacious room. We only stayed one night (driving through France) and we had a very relaxing stay here, despite the construction works that were carefully and honestly brought to our attention already when we booked. The hotel is being extended (hence the works), but we were not disturbed at all (arriving at 6 PM and leaving at 10 AM). We slept very well and had delicious food in the restaurant.

The hotel was large and stylish, with a spacious fenced parking area. We requested a ground-floor room and received one, which made it very convenient to go outside with our dog through the side doors. The hotel is located in an industrial area, so when going for a walk, we first had to walk a short distance along the roadside. However, there was a nice park nearby, perfect for walking the dog.

I could not take a breakfast but the hotel offered me an expresso to wake me up for the road waiting for me! The parking entrance is tight but it is large enough to accommodate all the cars. I had a very quiet room. The restaurant on the other side of the road does not look great (not bad either) but the cook is very good!!!!
