A very scenic town centre. A good supermarket and several specialist shops (bookshop especially) . just try and avoid the sweetshop (far too tempting) Several nice restaurants and an excellent fish and chip shop. Ballater is a lovely village.
Ballater is a lovely village. Very clean and tidy as you would expect being so close to Balmoral Castle. Beautiful hanging baskets outside the shops Plenty of cafes and gift shops. Lovely village green around the Church in the centre of Ballater with seating areas . Free car park and free parking around the Church. Lovely village to visit or stay. It has been the most wonderful and comfortable place we have stayed in on our trip we had been away for 4 weeks and this place by far the very best. Homemade cakes and a great breakfast. Very friendly and accommodating. Staff great. Very clean and comfortable. They are hoping to employ a chef soon so breakfast was continental and plenty of choice but sadly no dinner available at night-however they were happy for us to take food in and gave us plates and cutlery! Lovely walks in the surrounding area for our dog and in the grounds of the hotel too. Enjoyed sitting by an open fire with a couple of pints after dinner.
