The improvements to Bishop Aukland are excellent. I remember it from 20 years ago and the new facilities for visitors are very welcome. Kynren is brilliant and deserves much wider recognition. We stayed in Bishop Auckland in order to visit the Bishops palace and we weren't disappointed. The town itself is small and looking a little rundown in areas with lots of closed shops. We didn't have any trouble parking in the carparks and the price was reasonable for the location. £4 for all day. Checking in was easy, and the hut was toasty warm on arrival. We loved the attention to detail in the renovation of the goods wagon, and the folder with photos of the process. Clever use of a sofa bed, instead of a permanent bed, meant there was more room in the wagon during the day. Although there is a slight trade-off in comfort, it was worth it.
