I loved how relaxing and peaceful the hostel is. Fabulous views and scenery and lots of birds. The sound of the river and non-existent light polution made for a perfect getaway. Friendly staff and a bargain meal & dessert.

We had a great stay at the Kirkstile. It is in a beautiful location and has so much character. The room was a bit small, but comfortable and had everything we needed. A generous breakfast was included and the food served for lunch and dinner is excellent. Very friendly. We loved the quiet of the rural location and it was easy to walk down the road and find some wonderful scenery.

A fantastic hotel experience. I booked this for us as part of a trip showing my family from overseas the UK. We came here after 2 days in London and it was the perfect way to decompress and relax after a hectic time in the busy capital. When we arrived the scenery was breath-taking and walking through the main lounge with the real fireplace and comfortable, stylish furnishings we knew we made the right choice for a hotel. The rooms we booked were lovely and clean, our room had a beautiful view and the comfiest hotel bed we have slept in. The staff were friendly and approachable, they managed to provide a high end hotel experience without us feeling we were out of place with their friendly attitude. One of the waiting staff even offered to take a group photo of us when she saw my Grandfather attempting to take one which was lovely. The 3 course evening meal was fantastic and well presented and the bar had some lovely drinks options which were added to by the charming pub a 5 minute walk away in the nearby village. We all had a lovely time and I had to drag my husband away so we could check out and explore the Lakes! We are already planning to return and bring my in-laws with us. This is the best hotel I have stayed in so far, huge thanks to all involved.

there's not much in Buttermere village itself, but it is a great place to walk the lakes - at low level around buttermere or crummock water, or to access a lot of the wainwright hills in this area.

The hotel was walking distance from both lakes.

The hotel was walking distance from both lakes. Although Buttermere is a very busy spot with tourists we found it peaceful, pleasant and safe to walk around. There were a lot of dog walkers having a great time. WiFi and mobile phone signal is poor and intermittent but it was good to be off line for a few hours. It made us feel relaxed and recharged in nature

The walk around the lake was very relaxing, it was fairly quiet and we had exceptionally good weather. With few people the scenery was idyllic. Climbing up the steps to the top of the hill was challenging but very rewarding.

Good value for money for our stay. Very friendly staff at the reception as well as those two at the bar. Both the dinner and breakfast were good. Car parking spaces seemed a bit tight as this hostel was popular in the area, but we still managed to get a parking space at the sloping side area. Shared bathrooms and toilets were sufficient and did not have to wait. An old church and Syke Farm Tea Room were within walking distance. Very relaxing environment around the YHA Buttermere!

We loved our stay at the Bridge Hotel! The room was very clean and it was a plus having a bath in the room to relax following our long hikes around the lakes. The breakfast each morning was exceptional and I really enjoyed being able to select a different hot breakfast each day from the menu. We also spent one afternoon in the lounge area, playing some scrabble and was able to order some hot scones and tea.

An amazing gem of a place. My friends and I loved staying here for five days. The perfect base for our walks to Haystacks and other local peaks. There is nothing that we could criticise, just lovely. Would definitely recommend and if we decide to walk in this area again would try to book. Next time we would book an extra day or two to spend more time relaxing and swimming in Buttermere or Crummock.
