Booked the room for my mum and she loved her stay. Location is amazing, staff were so attentive and helpful, lounge area is a lovely place to meet friends and spend time, especially with its festive decoration. My mum loved the leisure facilities, and excellent opening hours...... everything was of a really good quality. Finally, as a visitor, it felt really warm, welcoming and friendly.

The staff were very attentive to my needs and extremely courteous- a credit to the hotel. Decor and facilities reminded me of days gone by- especially the breakfast room and service. A grand establishment in the heart of town- still fit for a President, I’d say! ( Apparently Woodrow Wilson stayed there after WW1!) Pool and spa were a bonus.

Have been here many times.

Have been here many times. Every time is different as there are so many things to do. New place opened, I think, this year. It is called Bordo. It is in the square. Good for coffee, tea, cakes, meals, drinks. Amazing decor. If you are into cheap beer, football on big tv's and betting machines, forget it!!! Also welcome dogs. They have a water feeding station for them. Amazing!!!!! On the other hand....... if you are on to the cheap drink etc with still a lovely atmosphere the Caledonia Pub might be for you. Especially on a Tuesday as they have the happy drink day for certain beverages. Also saw two dogs in here. Lovely shop has also opened not too long ago. Selling cards, arty stuff, etc. Lovely to be in it. Mainly I thing geared at women. not for the football brigade who can be seen outside with the sour faces waiting for their wives, girlfriends, etc!!!!

The hotel was perfectly located in the heart of Carlisle, making it easy to explore the town centre. There was plenty to see, both in terms of history; castle, cathedral, and ancient Roman structures also the many social attractions.

Quiet city consideringit is a University City. Lots if shopping areas but like many high streets many empty premises. The indoor covered market is virtually non exisitant which is a shame. Parking is reaonable and the Cathedral is well worth visiting.

The older area of the city around the cathedral and castle...

The older area of the city around the cathedral and castle is the most interesting and easy to explore on foot. The area includes the Tullie museum. The town centre shopping area is a disappointment with only one good coffee place.

I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't...

I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't have long to look round but my main feeling was to wonder why nobody's mentioned how lovely it is. It has some stunning historical buildings to see and the city had a nice vibe. It's also really conveniently located for the Lake District and has rail links directly to it. My husband and I have promised each other a longer trip back.

It was a perfect location as we were going to an event in Carlisle Cathederal. The Hotel was very clean, Staff were great, Room was great maybe little dated but adequate, Windows very old & poor considering the main walkway outside was getting renewed so you couldn't open windows for dust with them grinding the pavers, but the Bathroom was new, Beds comfy.

A lovely stay with just some small niggles: 1) No plug points next to the bed 2) No Black Pudding at breakfast for the entire stay and the bacon was under cooked and fried eggs overcooked These things didn't detract from what was another wmgreat stay and as always this will be my go to hotel in Carlisle.
