We hadn't meant to stop in Cirencester, but we'd gotten a bit lost in the area and hadn't eaten breakfast. We drove to the middle of town, marveled at the architecture, ate lunch at a delightful cafe just above a bookstore. Just beside the bookstore wad a glassblowing shop, where we watched the artisan and picked up some small souvenirs. Cirencester is a town that we had zero expectations about and fell in love with. We loved the walks around the town and the restaurants and parks. Very big old trees, the statues of the hare. The parish in Watermore was very welcoming when we joined the congregation for worship on Sunday. Unfortunately, the air raid shelter seems to have closed for the public. The history and buildings were really interesting. Plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance. Museums, amphitheatre and art galleries were great. Friendly people and the tourist information was a hit. Wish we had more time to visit the park. Lovely shops, a wide range of restaurants and pubs, a very interesting museum, Abbey grounds and Cirencester Park all make Cirencester a good choice for a short break. There is even an outdoor swimming pool. The Emerald Thai restaurant was very good. Well served by buses, so no need for a car. Pleasant and helpful staff and a location that is just a short walk from the centre of Cirencester. I felt very comfortable there and it is only a half hour walk to the town centre. It is a very peaceful neighbourhood/estate. My bed was comfortable and the room was generously sized with space to do exercise and a desk. The shower was so powerful, which I loved.
