We stayed in the two bedroom apartment. It was big, clean, bright and had everything we need. There isn’t much parking but we got a space. Staff were great and lots of food choices for lunch and breakfast. It’s on the high street so is a great location.

Maybe it looks strange that we gave each question 10 points, but any point deserved it. We are travelling three weeks through England and mostly Scotland, but up to now Kate's and Ian's house was the most so comfortable, beautiful, tasteful and relaxing that we were so happy. How stupid that we only stayed one night, all other guests do longer and some are there for the fourth time. And our hosts are so wonderful. How ever could I choose less than 10 points. And the landscape... So nice and beautiful. And silent... Only the birds sing too loud :) Kate and Ian: thanks so much!

    This quaint village has some lovely businesses that cater especially to hikers on Hadrian's Wall. Meg's House of Tea and the Samson Inn are treasures. The 122 bus services this town, making it very convenient.

    Lots of walks in the local area.

    Lots of walks in the local area. The Bridge Inn was open for drinks and we spent New Year’s Eve in the pub. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately Megs tea rooms were closed during our stay but this is recommended locally.

    Quaint little village , nice and quiet if you’re trying to escape the hustle and bustle of city life yet within a matter of minutes you are at prominent landmarks. There are also many hidden gems within walking distance

    Gilsland was a stop-off point for us walking Hadrian's Wall...

    Gilsland was a stop-off point for us walking Hadrian's Wall Path. Due to various mishaps, I felt almost ready to give up but our lovely overnight stay here put me back in the right frame of mind to continue the next day. Very quiet village, a good pub to eat in at night and just minutes from the HW Path.

    The location was superb, being very close to the national trail that we were walking. Breakfast was superb and so was the evening meal that the owner provided at very reasonable extra cost. This is by far the nicest B&B we have ever stayed in and was much better than the (more expensive) hotels we stayed in on the trail that week. The building was very recently renovated to a really high standard and in excellent taste.

    Beautifully presented room, lounge and dining area. Imaginative menus Clare was an excellent and thoughtful host, alerting us to the limited facilities in Gilsland before we arrived and happy to share local info. High praise too for supporting local suppliers.

    Equipped with everything you need, we'll kept and comfortable. Great location in Gilsland, with the village and the Wall on your doorstep. All year round accommodation with private outside seating area and inside with good controlable heating.

    We were starting our hike of Hadrians Wall from Gilsland. The Dacre House was the perfect start. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, great drinks and dinner and packed lunch to go was awesome. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
