Mallaig is a small port town with an interesting history.
Mallaig is a small port town with an interesting history. The Mallaig Historical Centre is worth a visit to learn about the story and people behind the town. There are quite a few fabulous cafes and restaurants specialising in fresh fish and home baking. Mallaig is an active, attractive, village with trains from Fort William and ferries out to the islands and other peninsulas. There are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants with hotels and B&Bs. I felt that everyone we came across was out to give us a wonderful holiday. The Bake house is a must . Their Portuguese tarts and pecan/ maple buns are delicious. It's hilly, no good for people unable to walk well.
It's hilly, no good for people unable to walk well. I found the hills a bit challenging but of course the scenery is wonderful. It's also only a 45 minute crossing by ferry to reach the Isle of Skye, such a beautiful place. The rooms were simple but functional. Ok for one night , would not stay here for a longer vacation though. Spindrift is well equipped and a lot of thought has obviously gone into making it a home from home. We hope to return for a longer visit soon.
