It's a great little town with lots of great places to stay and eat, additionally the Lakes are on the doorstep and the locals are sooooo friendly. The countryside around Penrith is beautiful.
The countryside around Penrith is beautiful. This is one of the less touristy parts of the Lakes, but only because it has fewer high peaks, not that it is any less attractive. It is therefore quieter. Lowther is worth visiting, Asham is a lovely little town, very picturesque, Shap Abbey has sat almost hidden in a fold of the landscape since the 13 th century, Hawswater, Ullswater, the High Street ridge, the CTC cycleway, there is a lot to see and do.Guest review byCharlesUnited Kingdom - 8.0
