Superb, friendly unpretentious country hotel in beautiful location. So good to be able to open the windows and listen to the birds singing. Great place to take the dog - very relaxed and wonderful walks on the doorstep. Staff hugely knowledgeable about the area and nothing is too much trouble!

I am from the USA and this is the perfect place if you find yourself near or are planning on exploring the Lake District. Wonderful wonderful wonderful hosts. They were super helpful when it came to in town suggestions and making sure we were comfortable and if we needed anything at all. The room was very clean and comfy and even had a water kettle and little snacks and such to nibble on, along with complementary waters. Town was beautiful with a ton of things to do around. There is a bus stop <5 minutes from the house that takes you directly to the Lake District National Park. We took bus 508 route to Glenridding (closest to the Helvellyn Striding Edge hike) in Lake District and they run about every hour so just check your maps for when the first bus out and back are. The route goes all the way to Windermere if you choose to get off there. The weekends may vary but still very good timing. Most definitely would recommend to anyone wanting to explore Penrith or the Lake District park.

I know Penrith well, I used to live and work here and its always a pleasure to return. It's a great little town with lots of great places to stay and eat, additionally the Lakes are on the doorstep and the locals are sooooo friendly. Additionally, not being in the National Park makes things a tad cheaper.

First time in Lake District and it is very pretty although we found it very expensive for everything: the boat trip, parking, ice creams, eating out and even charging for public toilets. Don’t think we’ll be back. We didn’t think there was enough to do as a family on a budget.

The countryside around Penrith is beautiful.

The countryside around Penrith is beautiful. This is one of the less touristy parts of the Lakes, but only because it has fewer high peaks, not that it is any less attractive. It is therefore quieter. Lowther is worth visiting, Asham is a lovely little town, very picturesque, Shap Abbey has sat almost hidden in a fold of the landscape since the 13 th century, Hawswater, Ullswater, the High Street ridge, the CTC cycleway, there is a lot to see and do.

so many many little independent shops hidden away in alleyways, and squares. Don't be deceived by just driving through the town - there is so much to see and explore behind the facades you first see. Plenty of hidden car parks too, which are well signposted

A perfect one night stay. I needed accommodation at short notice in Carlisle /Penrith area and didn’t want to stay in national chains. So glad I found this . It was in a rural location but still close enough to major routes. The staff were friendly, room clean and tidy. Great home cooked food on the menu and for breakfast the chef even arrived early when I said I would be leaving before the breakfast opening times. A perfect stay and will definitely be back.

Hotel and room were very clean, great bar area and facilities were perfect for a budget stay. We'll worth the price. Room was comfortable, clean and well kept. Great location, close to the town and nearby attractionsaswell as having penrith castle literally on the doorstep.

Short stay, friendly staff, excellent location. Good breakfast and we would definitely stay again and recommend it to others. The window from the room overlooked a tin roof of sorts but it didn't detract from the room itself or the hotel. The bathroom was large and the water hot, I had an amazing deep bath, luxury. Overall a clean, warm, friendly hotel which is of very good value in a central Penrith location.

Great hotel, very easy to find. Perfect for us as we were traveling with our two small dogs and they are dog friendly. Room was fully equipped and there were little treats left for our daughter and dogs. We ate dinner at the restaurant and had breakfast in the morning and we were happy both times, service and food was great. We will definitely return if we are looking for somewhere to stay in that area.
