Other than the magnificent abbey there are few obvious sites in Selby and it seemed to have few attractive places to eat. It is a pleasant town to walk around and there are good views from the bridge over the River Ouse. Selby is a nice town with a mix of amenities, there are historical places to visit and they have a gym, bowling and a canal which is very nice to walk beside. Had great tapas at Basco’s, and the next morning a wonderful breakfast at the Barco Lounge so even though the Bay Horse didn’t offer breakfast there is plenty of choice of excellent eateries within walking distance. Dog friendly too at the Barco Lounge, not sure about Bascos. Train station is only a 5 minute walk from the Bay Horse plus cheap car parking outside the pub. Our room overlooked Market Place on the first floor. It was a Monday evening and all very peaceful. A comment by the hotel management in the welcome pack implies there might be external noise. There wasn’t. Comfortable bed and in the room all that was needed for an overnight stay. Staff friendly and welcoming. Bar food and breakfast excellent.
