Stornoway is an interesting little town with Lews castle and grounds well worth a visit. It is a very good starting point to explore some of the island-places to visit include Callanish standing stones,the Black House,the Black House village and the broch,all of which are on the one road that leads directly out of Stornoway. Stornoway is a compact town, with good local pubs and restaurants. Lews Castle and its grounds and museum is well worth a visit. I also went to a folk music concert at the An Lanntair theatre which was excellent (I also enjoyed a pre- show meal there in its Thai Cafe). Stunning part of the world.
Stunning part of the world. So much more to see than we had time for, a week would have been amazing! Beckett's do a fab breakfast, not many other places open before 9am. Stornoway is a hidden gem in the Outer Hebrides. We stayed at Lew's Castle, (beautiful property), and we explored some of the island. If I planned the trip again, I'd have added a few more days here, (we did 3, would have enjoyed at least 2 more). The standing stones, the beaches, the people - all amazing! Our only problem was not making dinner reservations the first day we were there. Cruise ships now stop there, so reservations are a must when they are in town. Atractive river front with castle and gardens one side, shops and restaurants the other. HS1 cafe and Boathouse recommendation were good places to refuel.
