Stroud is a town with plenty of character.

Stroud is a town with plenty of character. There are many independent shops and alternative lifestyles are welcome. There are many coffee shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed The Curio restaurant, King St, Woodruffs coffee shop and Rajat Indian restaurant. We walked along the canal to Stroud Brewery which has a good bar and restaurant. That was an easy walk. We walked up Swifts Hill, Slad Valley and had a drink in the Woolpack, not so easy but very enjoyable. This is a must for fans of Laurie Lee's books.

Stroud was not the focus of our trip, but since you ask I'd say that its former condition was probably rather better than its current condition. It doesn't do well when compared with Cirencester which really is a town worth visiting. Stroud is pleasant enough and good for shopping. Traffic is reasonable

We didn't stay in Stroud but in Amberley a village near by. It was fascinating, very interesting to walk around as long as you avoid the cow pats. Cows are allowed to graze and wander where they wish.

Lovely places to eat - lovely country views - travelled by bicycle. Lots of hills so at times you have to walk it but we enjoyed ourselves. Travelled by train would recommend making reservations for your bicycles. Ate at Egypt Mill, Casa Sabor and The Bear at Rodborough and loved the food at the Five Valleys. Recommend the Ice Cream shop called Whinstones which has been there for 100 years.

The annex was super cosy and perfect for the three of us. In a great location with lots of walks nearby and close to Painswick and 40mins away from Bibury. Susie was a great host with lots of recommendations of things to do in the local area. Would definitely love to stay again!

It was a lovely hotel. The room was perfect! It was called the Hay Barn (room 64) & had an outside area with a table & chairs. It was wonderfully quiet which is just what I wanted. The staff were all welcoming & friendly. The food was lovely too.

The room was very well appointed, roomy and very clean. The Bear Hotel has a lot of character and doesn't feel crowded as there are a number of nice areas to have a drink or a meal.
