Surprisingly not an apocalyptic post-industrial wasteland... the football fans and the people generally are some of the friendliest I have met in my travels around the UK. Ended up walking back across the city to my hotel as the taxis were all busy, quite enjoyed it - even heard owls somewhere down by the river. Staff need more attention to detail, especially in the restaurant. We ordered a meal and when brought to the table it was put down in front of us and not asked if we wanted sauce etc. No one asked if the meal was ok as would normally happen. The steak I ordered was far from appealing or appetising and was indeed very grisly. I did not eat it. When I informed a member of staff he shrugged his shoulders and just took the plate away.
