My father and I were visiting my son at the Taunton School. We selected Meryan House and were more than pleased. From the minute we entered we were warmly greeted by the Wife and Husband team. They were so nice, they made us feel like truelly welcome guests. The Inn itself is oozing with character, history and comfort. Each room has its own character, dating back hundreds of years but updated with all the modern comforts. Downstairs the breakfast/dinning room has an ancient hearth. The living room is a nice place to gather and we had a drink at the bar with fellow travellers. The breakfast is classic English and delicious. I will being visiting Taunton again and will certainly choose to stay here.

We loved staying in this hotel resembling a castle. Welcoming staff secured our bikes in a streroom overnight. He room was large, the bed comfortable the shower moern and with good water pressure. The location is literally in the centre of town and the Full English Breakfast buffet set us up for another long day in the saddle.

    We were attending a wedding in a local village, so on this occasion, didn't see much of Taunton. However, our previous experience of the town is that it is well worth a visit. Lively and interesting.

    Market town which stretches either side of the River Tone...

    Market town which stretches either side of the River Tone with the imposing cricket floodlights surveying the scene. The rail station is at one end of the town but the heart is at the opposite end, about a 20 min walk that takes you the shops, pubs and restaurants. No shortage of places to have a coffee, usual range of shops, demographics certainly on the older side. Library has a nice cafe to complement a large range of books including local ones. Museum of Somerset is free though they would like a donation.

    I like looking around & visiting the shops & seeing visiting...

    I like looking around & visiting the shops & seeing visiting steam locos for the 'Torbay Express' & getting the bus 🚌 to Bishop's Lydeard & Norton Fitzwarren. I have been there many times over the years.

    Taunton itself has free on street parking for blue badge holders ; some shops closed as we visited on Easter Monday , otherwise good as all flat ; but some pavements are uneven & slope up / down , something for visitors with mobilty issues / back problems to be aware of .Park facilities closed as in cafe& toilets

    County town good centre for for day tripping local countryside and sites near Dunster know for castle north Devon coast worth visit Indian restaurant Turmeric Kitchen La Bonne Vie both very good Because of central location it is very easy to move around town on foot leaving car parked

    Great location for us as we wanted to use the train which was opposite the hotel. The town centre was about 10 to 15 mins walk. Lots of eateries around the area. The room was comfortable and very clean. The check in and out was easy. A good size carpark around the side of the hotel. Excellent staff and service. Very helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast too.It was refreshing to stay in a hotel that had so much history.

    Such a lovely place to stay, beautifully decorated and so much character. Close to the town centre but quiet. Backs on to a lovely park which can be accessed directly from the stunning cottage garden. Don't bother with hotels if you are staying in Taunton, this is so much nicer and much better value.

    You know what to expect at this chain and didnt disappoint. Very convenient for M5. Clean, comfortable with a good choice at breakfast. Large car park and bus stop outside the hotel for the town centre. Would recommend.
