We returned to Acharavi in Oct after visiting a year before...
We returned to Acharavi in Oct after visiting a year before in June. We were looking for a little more sunshine before the winter and it was lovely. In Oct some of the restaurants and bars were closed so there was less choice and we missed a couple of our favourite eating places. But we enjoyed cooking at the villa and shopping locally. Acharavi is more than a tourist town and so the supermarkets and local produce shops & bakery were still on the go. The beach at Acharavi is mainly taken over by the cafes and restaurants on the seafront so there is very little casual use beach. Mainly it is further west along the Sidari-Kassiopi road where, then, there are few facilities so its a difficult trade off. For us the real attraction was the tree filled hills for walking and walking along the seafront. Rhoda and Sidari had little to offer us. If we had rented a car for longer we could've struck out and visited other bays and towns but were happy at our Villa on the hills. Acharavi was a good town with lots of shops, restaurants and 3 supermarkets. The beach wasn't the best one as it has quite a lot of stones but its a short drive to really good sandy beaches at Roda and Agios Spiridonas. We enjoyed meals at Odysseus and Maestro - where they have a 'Greek Night' of music and dancing on a Tuesday evening, but book ahead. Also near Agios Spiridonas there is 'North Corfu Horses' where there are different options for horse rides. There are many wonderful places to eat delicious food! Our favourite was a beachfront restaurant called Eretrico. Dolce Freddo is a gelato place that does wonderful fresh waffles and amazing ice cream. There are a good few supermarkets with prices much lower that what we have here in Ireland. There are also plenty of giftshops selling typical souvenirs as well as locally made products such as olive wood products and jewellery. The town area is mostly flat, so it is easy to walk but some of the paving stones are uneven and could present a tripping hazard. There are a few bus stops with buses connecting to Corfu Town and a few other towns. There are a lot of cars, motorbikes, quad bikes and bicycles available to hire. I would recommend using the bus to get to and from Corfu Town and consider hiring a car for exploring the local area as there are many beautiful beaches you can only reach by car. Locally, you can hire paddle boards, rent sun loungers and umbrellas at reasonable prices and arrange tours through a travel agent. It is possible to do things like boat trips, a day trip to Albania and go horse riding. There’s plenty to do and there are good supermarkets and an excellent fresh fish shop. It’s on the coast and a sundowner drink at one of the tavernas is a must. The restaurants are very good, but the local grill bar is particularly good value for money. We also went to Therikas taverna which was local to us that was very good also. We had a glorious week in November at Feeloxenia. The weather was perfect. The people were friendly and kind. We had a rental car and would recommend that you rent a car while here. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable, equipped with everything you need during your stay. The location is also fantastic. There are many very good restaurants, shops nearby, and a 5-minute walk to the beach. One of the many advantages of staying in this place is the kindest owner, whose hospitality is simply extraordinary. The apartment is located above the bakery owned by Mary. There is a very good hiking route to the highest mountain of Corfu (we have traveled all Corfu and this route was the best for hiking, 5 hours (total)). The sea coast has a very long beach so it was fun to take a long stroll.
