The town is a tourist base.
The town is a tourist base. Not particularly interesting or pleasant. We only went for the railway trip, but unfortunately it was cancelled on the two days we were there, due to falling rocks on the line. This doesn't happen very often apparently...we were just unlucky. Lovely town with wide spaces, friendly people and some compelling history attached to it from the Holocaust and the Greek Independence . Great meal at a local restaurant that was delicious and very traditional. Unfortunately it is difficult to get around without a car and taxis are way too expensive. To get to Ayia Lavra which is 4 kms away they wanted 20 euro up and back. In the end we didn't go to any monastery. Kalavrita is a gorgeous town with lots of Greek History important sites, amazing nature walks and hike, lovely very affordable food and welcoming people. Even if you don't ski, as it is known for the ski resort, there are lots of things to enjoy. I will definitely revisit as 3 days at Kalavrita were barely enough.Guest review byAthina - 8.0

Kalavrita is a nice town (bigger and more lively then expected... but again not a big town). We found a good restaurant offering a big variety of Greek food. When we were there after the mid of August there was a nice concert in the main square and there were many people around. The shops were opened as well. We saw the orthodox Monastery of Kalavrita (it is free) and I recommend the visit, there was a nice atmospheare.Guest review bySocraticaItaly - 10.0
Kalavrita is a nice get away.
Kalavrita is a nice get away. You don’t have to go to ski, just being in the quaint town it’s perfect. Strolls, eating out, there are some awesome places to eat. We visited the Holocaust museum, that is realized in the real original school building where Nazist soldiers activated the massacre of Kalavitra inhabitants. Very well organized, effective, emotional Then, we took the opportunity to jump on the cog train towards Diakopto, and to experience the unique, beautiful and unforgettable walk along the railroad path, with magnific view on the Vouraikos gorge and river. The Host made a free upgrade and gave us the best room, because the high season at this place, which is winter, for this place is ski resort, did not come yet, and the Hotel was empty. We were able to park out the back of the hotel where there was a lift, so apart from 2 steps it was all flat the rest of the way to our room.
