David and Marieke are lovely hosts and they did a great job with the place. It feels like you went back in time, away from this modern world, loud and crowded. Peacefull place indoors and outdoors. The road up there is a little bumpy and quite long, but the destination is well worth it. We arrived late in the evening and after getting worried that we missed the road or we'd end in some abandoned place, we were surprised to find a welcoming cozy place like The Merchants' House. Entering the room was a total exciment for my 12 years old son to discover every corner if it and who bragged about being the one to say Yes to this accomodation, even if, on the map, it seemed far away from the beaches. Next morning, we were amazed with the "royal breakfast" and "royal service".🥰 We switched 3 accommodations during our 8 days vacation in Corfu, but The Merchants' was the best, the cleanest, the friendliest.🥰 Thank you, Marieke and David for making our stay sooooo so relaxing and exquisite.👑🎩

Super beautiful garden and pool area, we loved staying at Ilena Hotel. Spacious apartment, even though we were 4 people in a 3 person apartment. Perfect family holiday! (Kids aged 15, 11, and 9) The hotel is a true peaceful oasis, like a private little village. Everything was neat and quiet, with lots of young families around.. The water slides was a hit with the kids, but it never felt overcrowded (we were there in mid-June). Staff were kind, the whole place felt cozy – perfect if you enjoy a calm and relaxing atmosphere.. Only 15 min drive if you want to see Canal Damour..not even an hour from the airport.. We’d definitely love to come back! ❤️

    A wonderful village high in the mountains of Corfu,...

    A wonderful village high in the mountains of Corfu, abandoned in the 1950s, but now undergoing sensitive restoration. Excellent traditional tavernas and a shop selling local pottery, olive wood items and honey. Well worth the 20 minute drive from the coast. Take the turning opposite Ice Dream, a brilliant ice cream parlour with home made ice cream, frozen yoghurt and waffles.

    Presently, slightly surreal, with so many dead and decaying, Venetian styled stone-houses. But I guess this will change as the 'ghost-village' rebuilds itself. It may then lose a part of the character that is currently attracting visitors. But it will still be high in the mountains, still in the shadow of Pantokrator and its blasphemy of a telecommunications carbuncle, and still with all the peace and the space that goes with it, along with tavernas still serving rabbit stew; so leave your sun-beds and snorkels in Kassiopi, and take the long and winding road up to Perítheia. Or not. You could just stay on your sun-bed, finish that John Grisham and consider giving Hilary Mantel a go....

    The small village of Old Peritheia has it's own magic and...

    The small village of Old Peritheia has it's own magic and along with it a history, more recently the addition of the Merchants House is a perfect accompaniment to the already popular Tavernas. Very popular with tours during the day and in the evening a lively place to eat with it's own intimate atmosphere.
