The city center is very pretty, full of flowers in the parks and nice cafes all around. We really liked the market with all the local produce. There are really nice little shops on Rakoczi Street. Many restaurants offer a 2 course menu at lunch time for really great price. The Benko Zoltan Park is a great place to go walking, running or to have a pic-nick The big hill in the middle has a great view from the top. We stopped here on our way back from Greece. We were only in the center, which we were excited about! The central squares are connected. There is a beautiful Art Nouveau town hall, an Art Nouveau palace and several churches of different denominations. We were there because a relative was in the local (very good) hospital, but the stay was very pleasant, the people friendly and the food good and varied. If you want away from the mass tourism, small town, small problems, cheap local food, very nice local market. train is cheap but the service is not too good quality, old cars and no AC, delays. For the European soccer contest 2024 the town set up two huge screens in the park, there were table and chairs, also shade and food stalls. The atmosphere was great. I had been recommended the restaurant Leves`M by a friend and ended up eating there three times. Kecskemét is full of Art Nouveau buildings, museums, expecially about painting, history and design. I've been lucky to stay in this city just during a music/folk/theatre festival at the end of August.
