FAQs about hotels in Jakarta

Indonesia’s World City

Indonesia’s capital, sprawling Jakarta has hurtled into the 21st century at a startling rate. Rapidly expanding, it is an eclectic mix of cultures with an electric clubbing scene including the EX at Plaza Indonesia mall and those near Blok M mall, popular with expats. Jakarta shopping is great, with modern malls all over, interspersed with traditional markets, some underground.

Thousands of Jakarta restaurants and cheap street food offer many choices. Little Japan is best for sushi (and karaoke), while colourful Chinatown has fantastic dim sum. Buzzing around all are bajaj, Indonesia’s equivalent of tuk-tuks.

The main Jakarta sights include Monas National Monument in green Merdeka square. Spectacularly lit at night, it has a deck with fantastic city views. Opposite is the presidential palace, patrolled by the national guard. The oldest part is Batavia – the city’s Dutch Colonial name – and is home to the Jakarta History Museum.

Away from the bustle is Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a suburban park celebrating Indonesia’s rich culture through museums, dance and film, centred around a large lake with Indonesia-shaped islands. Ancol Dream Park also features waterparks, beaches and amusement rides.

Traffic can be manic, so leave time after checking out of your Booking.com accommodation in Jakarta to get to Soekarno Hatta or Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.

People were very helpful. City vibes were very positive.Food was cheap. On one side Elegant shopping malls to visit such as Grand Indonesia ,Sarinah with world class brands, on other hand local markets such as Tamreen city or Pasar Tanha Abang for local products on cheaper rate were available . Ancol beach is worth visiting specially on Night

We stayed in the centre of Jakarta, a vibrant and modern metropolis . What mostly stands out is friendliness and courtesy of everyone. What was difficult for us was very hot and humid climate, contrasted with really cold shops, restaurants and hotel interiors.

Bit heavy on the smog / taxi or tuktuk is the only way to get around in the area I stayed so dependant on your hotel location. Chinatown was a bit of a dissappointment, more for the locals to trade rather than for tourists.

There's plenty to do, including plenty of shopping.

There's plenty to do, including plenty of shopping. But there's two major annoyances. 1. The food is mediocre (Popo Lamama was one of the few exceptions) - it is uninspiring, and sometimes unsafe (served luke-warm, not hot). 2. Public transport is annoying: buses on certain routes are infrequent, short trips often require 3 buses, and BRT bus stops are located far apart. I'm not sure if I managed to activate JakLingko on my (Bogor-issued) e-Money cards. Other observations: some BRT buses get caught in traffic because they can't enter the BRT lane until much later (a particularly bad example is Rt 10H taking the corkscrew from Jl. Gatot Subroto to Jl. Jenderal Suderman towards SCBD). Poorly designed walking paths to public transport or shopping centres. Trains running to funny patterns (needing two trains to get to Duri even though it's on the same line???). The JakLingko app requires you to mess around and set up an account first - so I used Google Maps (public transport directions) instead. We tried to visit the National Monument, but we gave up due to the very long walk from the public transport to the actual monument.

Jakarta is a vibrant city full of life, flavors, and friendly faces. I loved exploring the old town (Kota Tua) and strolling along the bustling streets full of street food stalls. Getting around was fairly easy using ride-hailing apps, and I enjoyed trying local dishes like nasi goreng and sate. For a solo traveler, visiting the National Monument and wandering through the lively markets was a great way to experience the city’s culture.

    Sirs,

Sirs, I am a season traveller past 70 years and stayed in this remarkable Hotel in the past for several of my trips to Jakarta and I have booked this hotel directly in the past. I do know what a good hotel it is. But this time I booked thru Booking.com so that they provide the visitors unmaintained rooms with minimum facilities. I knew this thru past experience. I shall not book any more hotel bookings thru any of the agents. It is not only Booking.com but many other agents too.

Location very special, close to nice Dutch architecture and the famous Café Batavia. On the other hand: poverty (slums) is also nearby. But it’s good to be aware of this, and you can help a little by buying things from poor vendors or make use of their services, like tuktuks. The hotel is really good with excellent and superfriendly staff, always willing to help you or give tips and advice. A highly recommended 4 star hotel. Real value for money.

Great modern and very clean hotel with lots of greenery inside, perfectly located near the central area and metro. Easy to walk around the city or reach the airport. A BNI ATM is just steps away and the huge and luxurious Grand Indonesia Mall (which offers a wide variety of local and Asian cuisines at very affordable prices) is only a 20-minute walk away. Friendly staff, lovely rooftop terrace, and 24/7 security. Highly recommended!

Staff are very friendly. Location is great. Easy walking distance to both Sarinah Mall and Plaza Indonesia. Street hotel is on is very quiet. Good restaurants on same road to choose from also - Especially the coffee at the local Sunda restaurant nearby. Breakfast is very traditional. Swimming pool is small but fine for a quick dip at the end of the day.

Indonesian hospitality is always the best. The hotel is good, staff always smiling and offering help. Even the restaurant staff is friendly and attentive to us. But i think it is indonesian style, even the grab driver will always greet you properly. The hotel also walking distance to Atrium mall and newly refurbished.
