It was centrally located to visit various temples in Thanjavur district. All the temples were within 70 to 80 km range that gives a hour and half time for travel by car. A city truly deserving of the epithet TEMPLE CITY, Kumbakonam and its surrounding areas are truly replete with temples. There isn't going to be ever enough time to visit all of them, so being prepared with a list to visit would be helpful. The city reeks of poor maintenance. The city sidewalks are strewn with garbage, and unclean roads add up to the mess.
