Hellnar is the perfect location, close to all the major attractions on the peninsula and an ideal place to spend the night while soaking in the beauty of the landscape. There’s a charming little café just a few minutes from the Peninsula Suites that serves the best waffles with jam and whipped cream, an Icelandic classic. The views are truly out of this world, we’ve never seen anything like it. Cliffs, ocean, glacier, and moss all come together in the most breathtaking way. Beautiful views of the sea, especially sunrise.
Beautiful views of the sea, especially sunrise. Great mountain views. It was uncharacteristically cold and windy so no hiking but trails exist. Easy access to the national park with black beaches, lighthouses, lava tubes and volcano views. Nothing open in winter, you'll have to drive to Arnarstapi (5 minutes) or 30 min around the peninsula for any food or fuel.Guest review byNeilUnited States

Not much nearby - but nice walk down to beach (with cafe). Hotel rooms are cosy but clean and comfortable - timber framed so not much noise insulation. We had a great stay for one night as a family of four with two sea view rooms - and were pleasantly surprised how good the restaurant food was considering how remote the hotel is. Dinner and breakfast both great. Also recommend the Frista Food Truck in nearby Arnarstapi for amazing fish and chips and quesadillas. Good recommendations from reception for spots to stop at on the drive back to Reykjavik, including seals on the rocks at Ytri Tunga.
